For over 30 years David Scharf has been making images with the Scanning Electron Microscope. Beginning with black & white images recorded onto 4”x5” film in 1973. In 1980 came a period of expertly hand colored images, copied onto 4”x5” and 35mm transparency film. By 1991 or so, digital color images were being recorded using Scharf’s Multi-Detector Color Synthesizer for the S.E.M. The quality kept on getting better as technology has permitted. David Scharf’s S.E.M. images define the state-of-the-art in S.E.M. imaging.
